Father was one of the first pioneer doctors when Malaysia was formed. His first posting in the state of Sabah was as a Medical Officer in Keningau Hospital. After Keningau, he was posted to the Kota Belud hospital. Later, in 1971 he was posted as the Medical Officer in charge of Tawau Hospital until 1973. He then worked for a short period at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Kota Kinabalu. In June of 1975, he was posted as the Principal Medical Officer of West Coast, and the Health Officer of Kota Kinabalu, Penampang, and Tuaran. Father resigned from the government in 1980 to open up private practice in Beaufort. In 1993, he was awarded the title of ADK by the Sabah Government for his services in the rural areas around the town of Beaufort. He was also an active member of the Lion's club there until he fell ill in 2004, and decided to sell his clinic to settle down in Kota Kinabalu for treatment.
